The United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) officially was withdrawn, the troops left their posts and the army of the United Arab Republic (UAR; Egypt) take over them – in the Gaza Strip the troops of the Palestinian Liberation Organization which was part of the Egyptian army. Meanwhile, Canada and Denmark requested a Security Council meeting about the situation in the Middle East, but it was denied by the Soviet Union and Bulgaria.
