After finishing his negotiations with President Gamal Abdel Nasser, UN Secretary General U Thant left Cairo for New York to submit his report to the Security Council. Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Abba Eban flew from London to Washington. In his statements he said that it would turn out if the powers who gave guarantees about the free shipping through the Straits of Tiran would keep their words. He also said that the situation was very serious for Israel, and that the Egyptian blockade was an aggressive step against the international law, the maritime nations, and the basic interests of Israel. Shams Al Din Badran, the Defense Minister of the UAR (Egypt) arrived at Moscow. He was negotiating with high-ranking officials, including Alexei Nikolayevich Kosygin, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union, about the Soviet support. He stayed in Moscow until May 28. President Lyndon B. Johnson visited the EXPO ’67 in Montreal and met Lester B. Pearson Canadian Prime Minister. On their joint press briefing Johnson told that they discussed the situation in the Middle East, but didn’t mention any details.
